Background

History of Establishment

The faculty of Social Sciences, Naresuan University is one of the very first academic divisions of the university since it was an Educational College and was established to be Srinakharinwirot University, Phitsanulok Campus on 22 June 1974.

In 1980, the faculty of Social Sciences had been merged with the faculty of Humanities. Then Srinakharinwirot University, Phitsanulok Campus gained its own autonomy and became Naresuan University, named by His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Since the first of October 2003, the faculty of Social Sciences had re-established and was separated from the faculty of Humanities. The faculty contains 4 academic departments including;

  • Department of Psychology
  • Department of History
  • Department of Sociology and Anthropology
  • Department of Political Science and Public Administration

In 2018, the council was organized to integrate The Faculty of social sciences and The College of ASEAN community studies and restructuring the internal division of work into 7 divisions  including;

  • Department of Psychology
  • Department of History
  • Department of Sociology and Anthropology
  • Department of Political Science and Public Administration
  • Center of ASEAN Community Studies
  • Center of Excellent of ASEAN Community Studies
  • The Secretariat of the Faculty of Social Sciences

The faculty of Social Sciences, Naresuan University works really hard to develop potential graduates and to strengthen academic research in order to reach our goals to be an excellent centre of social studies.

The faculty emblem is Pramalabiang (The Leather hat with the cutting edge of King Naresuan.) which means wisdom enlightenment, moral courage, wide vision, and dare to think, act, and decide based on moral virtue.

The faculty employs the Ratchrapruek flower (Golden shower; Cassia fistula) as a symbolic flower. The Golden shower shows toughness which similar to all faculty members who always hard-working in order to reach a high academic standard.

The faculty uses blue color as a main theme which means the sky covering interconnection of social relations. This reveals major character of the faculty as interdisciplinary sciences.

The faculty of Social Sciences operates three major Bachelor degrees including;

  1. Bachelor of Political Science program in Political Science.
  2. Bachelor of Science program in Psychology.
  3. Bachelor of Arts programs in History, Social Development and Global Studies (Bilingual Program).

The faculty run two major Master degrees including;

  1. Master of Arts programs in Social Development and Southeast Asian Studies.
  2. Master of Political Science program in Political Science.

The faculty also has a Doctoral degree programs in Social Development and Southeast Asian Studies.

Currently, we have an active and energetic executive board including;

  • Assistant Professor Dr.Oratai Soparat : Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Multiculturalism
  • Dr.Atit Pongpanit : Associate Dean for Research and International Affairs
  • Dr.Chaipong Samnieng : Assistant Dean
  • Pongsira Kongthaewtong : Assistant Dean

We also have 4 strong academic departments which run by heads of department including;
